Our co-op program provides invaluable hands-on experience to young professionals like yourself, introducing you to programming principles, practices, and rigours for security-certified solutions well beyond academic learning.

Crypto4A’s thirty senior designers and architects believe that the future lies in the hands of the youth. We’ve had over fifty diverse co-op placements since 2019, eight at present (Winter 2024) and ten planned for the summer of 2024.

Five of our current senior staff have joined us full time after coming through our co-op program and now hold team lead positions.

How to apply

We actively recruit every term via multiple university co-op programs, and the best way to apply is through your university co-op program.

What you will do at Crypto4A

Design, write, and test software for Crypto4A's products and services.
Build/configure Linux platforms, and security-focused Java and web-based services that run on top of them.
Analyze requirements and propose design alternatives.
Provide input to architecture, design and code reviews.
Provide input and evaluation of new technologies and products.
Have lots of memorable, fun, educational and productive experiences.

What our past co-ops are saying

At Crypto4A was the first time I saw a direct correspondence between my academic studies and the innovation that is worked on at a company.... In a talk given by a Waterloo professor to the UWaterloo Cybersecurity Club, he discussed the cutting-edge post-quantum cryptographic algorithms that I worked with at Crypto4a.

Crypto4A's training empowered me to take the step into cybersecurity I hoped to take. They allowed me tons of opportunities to re-skill and cross-train... The overall office experience really allowed me to become part of the team in a way that was not possible at my previous fully remote co-ops.

My advice to a student coming to work at Crypto4A is to be prepared to learn and to work hard. I think it’s a great work environment, a great learning environment and you should try to learn as much as possible from this work term. People are nice, they want to help, and, of course, there’s beer o’clock on Fridays. The most important thing for me was the level of trust that everyone has towards us.

I realized immediately how smart the people are here and I’ve learned so much because of them. The product is also really cool, it’s fun to work with emerging technologies, as I’d previously only worked in positions maintaining older systems. It keeps the days exciting and engaging.
